1 pupil:

читает стихотворение. Вступление:

If I went out in space,

I'd tell the whole human race

Of all the things that I could see

And I'd bet they'd wish that they were me

I'd take my ship from Earth to Mars,

Right through the air and over the stars.

(By Ben Davis).

Maxim Gorky wrote a beautiful poem about a bird that was born to fly higher than the clouds, higher than the wind and the storm. How much poetry there is in the flight of the first silver bird that carried a man into the darkness of space where the sun is a tremendous ball of fire, and the stars shine brighter than we ever see them on earth. Space flight is not only man's greatest achievement; it is a poem that we love to hear again and again.

2nd pupil: The history of the space age opened with the flight of Yuri Gagarin, but it had a long pre-history. Years ago in the dark days of old Russia, Кгуаkunov (Крякунов), a poor church servant rose up in the air on a big ball full of hot smoke. He knew nothing about the science of aerodynamics; his flight was "against the will of God", but it was the first step. Kryakunov proved that man can fly.

And today we shall read and speak on this subject-about the people who made it possible to make the sky, the space nearer to us. We'11 speak about the Pioneers in Aviation. We'll check up your knowledge of this theme.

Later you will have a quiz competition. But now we'll begin it with our prose - with the reminding of the contents of the text and of course, the correct reading of the new words from the text.

But first, I'd like to ask you a question: Was the text difficult for you? Did you understand everything? What haven't you understood, ask me, please! (Let's try to translate together).

2. Чтение текста: а) отработка всей лексики по данной теме: (на доске таблица со всей лексикой).

Leonardo da Vinci, France, Montgolfier, Picard, Alexander Mozhaisky, Wright, aviation, wind, to construct, helicopter, parachute, air balloon, Frenchman, flight, light, to work out, model, experiment, Kite, stratospheric balloon, eclipse, aeroplane, metal, wood, canvas, pilot (to pilot), pilotage, to rain, to loop the loop.

Answer: Quiz:

I" pupil: I 1) How did men try to fly in the earliest times? How did they do it? And what happened to them?

2) What was Leonardo da Vinci?

3) What drawings did Leonardo da Vinci make?

2nd pupil: II. Finish the sentences:

a) Already in 1731, a Russian made the first... (Hot air balloon out of a bag).

b) When the balloon was full of hot air... (It could go up).

c) The man held the rope of the balloon in his hands and... (was carried up with it high into the air). Дополнительные вопросы, если учащиеся сразу не могут дать правильный ответ:

a) What did a Russian make first?

b) What could it do?

c) What happened to the man?

1" pupil: III. Agree or Disagree:

1) The man in the first balloon went up higher than the houses tops and the wind carried him for hundreds of metres.-(tree tops, for some meters). Answer the Questions:

2) In June, 1783, two Frenchmen, the Montgolfier brothers, built a very big paper balloon-how many years was it later after the Russian air balloon had been made?-(fifty)

3) What kind of balloon was it?

2nd pupil: IV. Agree or Disagree:

1) During the first flight which took place in France, the balloon went up into the air. It carried two men. One horse, one dog and one cat.-(nobody or it did not carry anybody).

2) During the second flight some cows were tied to the platform (dogs).

3) In the third flight. Which was in November of the same year two men went up in the balloon? + They were twenty-eight minutes in the air and traveled seventy kilometers - (twenty-five-six).

1st pupil: Fill in the words:

I'll read you the sentences and you must fill in the necessary words instead of the word "blank", which means "пропуск":

1) Today balloons have blank inside, which is lighter than the hot blank-(gas,-air.) So they do not fall when the wind blank - (stops).

2) Dmitry Mendeleyev made experiments with big blank that could carry a man up into the blank. (kites, - air.)

3) Dmitry Mendeleyev himself went up in the basket of a big stratospheric balloon over three blank metres high and watched a blank of the sun-(thousand,-eclipse).

2nd pupil:

1) Tell about Alexander Mozhaisky-what he was, what he did for our aviation and in what conditions he did it.

2) Russia is a country that gave the world the first aeroplane pilots. Who were they? Tell about them, please.

3) The modern Russian airplanes, made in the Soviet period have the names of their constructors. Who are they?

1 pupil: How you will have another task. You will puzzle out a crossword. So listen very attentively to the tasks, then who is ready, raise your hand very quickly and come to the blackboard to fill in the necessary word: (решается кроссворд).

Across (по горизонтали):

1. He made experiments with big kites and watched an eclipse to the sun in his own stratospheric balloon... (Mendeleyev)

2. Sergei Korolyov, when he was five years old, came to watch the flights of this pilot... (Utochkin)

3. This pilot was the first to loop the loop ... (Nesterov)

4. They built an airplane with a motor and flew in it for the first in 1903... (Wright)

5. The first airplane was made of metal, wood and ... What else was it made of? (Canvas)

6. This scientist was the first man in the world who worked out the flying model of a helicopter and finished it in 1754 ... (Lomonosov)

7. Leonardo da Vinci made drawings of a flying machine first. What machine was it? (Helicopter)

8. What did Alexander Mozhaisky build first in the world? (Airplane) Down (по вертикали):

1. In June 1783 a big paper balloon was made. Who made it? (Montgolfier)

2. How many metres a second could the first airplane fly? (Eleven)

3. The Country, where the first flying machines were made, the Mother Country of Aviation (Russia).

5) You will listen to the text - "Gagarin's Interview at the Conference" then you will dramatize such a situation: "A Cosmonaut gives an interview to journalists at the conference. He tells about his flight and his feelings, and emotions. So, listen to the text first! (учащиеся прослушивают следующий текст: на доске таблица на новые слова).

-This is what Yuri Gagarin said at his conference:"0n my flight the day side of the Earth was clearly seen: the continents, islands, seas and big rivers. Flying over Soviet land I could clearly see the big squares of  collective farm fields, and it was possible to distinguish which was meadow and which was forest. I could not sec as well as from an airplane, but very very well though. I saw for the first time with my own eyes the Earth's spherical shape. I must say that the view of the horizon is very beautiful. You can see the noticeable change from the light surface of the Earth to the completely black sky in which you can see the stars.

This transition, from light blue to dark, is very gradual and lovely.

I did see the Moon. In space the sun shines ten times more brightly than on Earth. The stars can be seen very well.

1 felt excellent as I entered space. When weightlessness developed, everything was easier to do. My legs and arms weighed nothing. Objects swarm in the cabin.

During this state of weightlessness, ate and drank, and everything was the same as on Earth. My handwriting did not change, though my hand was weightless.

But I had to hold my notebook or it would have floated away.

The passage back from weightlessness to the force of gravity happened smoothly .Arms and legs feel the same as during weightlessness, but now they have weight. I ceased to be suspended over the chair, and then I sat in it. When I returned to Earth I was full of joy.

Учащиеся отрабатывают ситуацию, затем инсценируют ее. После каждого конкурса подводятся итоги. И в конце - общий итог. Если останется время, учащиеся могут составить из слова airplane новые слова, for example: air, plane, lane, plan, rain, pain, April, pearl, ran, pen, pair, real.
